The dogs were barking up a storm on the front porch this evening and this is what I found when I went outside to look, although it did take me a while to find it. I think it is a flying squirrel (really just a gliding squirrel.) Whatever it is it is really cute and was absolutely petrified!

We have several new additions to our home. First, we are starting to drown in zucchini! Yesterday we found foster homes for two zucchinis, plus we have eaten the one I picked on Sunday, June 10! There are 4 more sitting in my crisper drawer that are going to become something delicious soon! I am not sure the date when you are supposed to be harvesting veggies from the garden, but this seems really early to me... I did not plant the seeds particularly early, but they are organic seeds I got from Seeds of Change. Maybe that is the difference. Their seeds are a little more expensive, but they are well worth it. I also blanched my first batch of Blue Lake bush green beans - we can't wait to taste them! With the bad drought we have been having I am surprised that the garden is thriving like it is!

Our second new big addition is Beowulf, an onyx brindle Great Dane puppy born on April 5, 2007. We are scheduled to pick him up on June 21. The breeders (not actually breeders, they just decided to breed the Great Danes they already had to pay for dog food!) live just down Leonard Road and they have been gracious enough to hold onto him for until the summer semester is over. When he was at the vet last week for some shots they told us he weighed 22 lbs. already! He will be a very big boy!

So much has happened since the last entry, but our teaching schedules have made it impossible to upload anything until now.
It has been an interesting spring. First it got really warm early on and everything started budding, and then it dipped into the teens for about a week. It took about 2-3 weeks for the temps to rebound so spring was in the refrigerator for almost a month. Everything had a slight green haze but no leaves would come. Then finally, it got really warm and has stayed that way and suddenly all of the plants and animals are going wild!

We got a great winter storm. Snow, then ice, then sleet, then more snow.
