We have big news here! First off, we are an official "Certified Wildlife
Habitat" with the National Wildlife Federation. 2505 Leonard Road
is Habitat # 70793.
We are currently in the process of renovating the garage into my pottery
studio!!! I plan to start production within 1-2 months. Details coming... In
the mean time here are some images of what I have made in the past.
We finally got DSL at the house today! Updates to
this site should (I stress should!) happen more frequently now. 'Til
then, here are some images of a preying mantis we saw this morning.

While mowing the roof over the master bedroom I hit
a rabbit's nest. One of the rabbits was severly injured so I called
the local wildlife rehabilitation specialist at Trail's End. Unfortunately
she was on vacation out-of-state for 3 more days. The injured bunny
made it through the night and actually seemed to perk up the next
morning. But as the day wore on it became more listless until finally
sometime between 9:00 - 10:30 that night it died. The following morning
I went to a local nursery and bought some flowers to plant on the
bunny's grave. I buried him in the woods down the path I made that
leads to the swing. I planted a hosta over his grave with Jacobs ladders
and coral bells around it. Added to the lilly-of-the-valley and curly
hosta I had already planted down there it looks nice. I want to get
a small statue of a rabbit to put with it. I am worried about mowing
again, but I will have to...
I scared this lizard out of the grass while mowing. He was about 4-5
inches long and was not injured at all. Thankfully he has no teeth
because when I picked him up he clamped down on my hand and would
not let go!

Lately we have seen a number of interesting animals:
the dogs caught a weasel
and then it got away, we found a leech
on the road after a heavy rain storm flooded the wetlands, a
baby snapping turtle was crossing
the road a couple days ago as we were coming home so of course
we stopped and picked it up, we found a huge bullfrog
along the road one night, I picked up a
baby bird that the
dogs cornered and released it in the woods, the neighbor's dog
killed a 5-6 foot black rat snake
in the front yard a few weeks ago. Of course, I did not have my
camera for any of these sightings! I do have pictures of the moths
that gather around our back porch light all night.

It has been very hot and humid and the plants
in the yard and woods love it! Here are some pictures from a walk
around the property.

On my way in to work this morning I found a coyote
pup that had been hit by a car. Even though it is a top predator
and can wreak havoc on a farm it is such a waste to see a magnificent
animal like this senselessly killed by a car. Later that day when
I came home I found a most photogenic storm and some quarter-sized
hail.

Last night there were several storms that blew through the area. We
also saw turkey vultures up close.
October - December 2005
In late 2005 we bought a school bus and an old utiltiy truck!
